Karnekota Sai
Karnekota Sai, a rising visual artist based in Hyderabad, India, merges diverse mediums and techniques to explore the interplay between rural heritage and urban existence. Their artistic journey began at JNAFAU (Jawaharlal Nehru Architecture and Fine Arts University) and continues with an ongoing MFA at MSU Baroda. Sai's powerful works have garnered recognition, including the prestigious Chitramayee State Gallery of Arts Award. He has actively participated in exhibitions across India, showcasing his unique perspective.
Sai's artistic core lies in transforming rural landscapes and agricultural practices. Growing up in a village surrounded by his family's butcher shop and farm, Sai developed a deep respect for nature and traditional crafts like terracotta, basket weaving, and metal casting. Witnessing a real estate boom fragment agricultural lands into urban developments instilled a profound sense of change. This shift disrupted the village's social fabric, prompting Sai to move to the city five years ago.
Hyderabad presented a stark contrast. Sai observed that urban life was marked by people's relentless pursuit of attention in public spaces and online. This insatiable desire often led to emotional and physical strain. Sai's artistic practice attempts to bridge these contrasting realities. Their work delves into the impact of landscape changes on rural communities and the effects of urban living on individuals. Through art, Sai aims to address these issues, highlighting the importance of connection and a balanced relationship with both nature and the modern world
